Critically acclaimed mezzo soprano Raphaela Mangan graduated top of her class with a record-breaking First Class Honours Degree from the Conservatory of Music and Drama, DIT, under the tutelage of Anne-Marie O'Sullivan, where she was awarded the Michael McNamara Gold Medal for performance and the DIT Academic Gold Medal. After studying for her Masters Degree at the Conservatory she furthered her studies in Belgium where she graduated top of her class with a distinction from Flanders Opera Studio.
Her singing career has taken her internationally where to date she has toured & performed roles such as: ‘Bradamante’ from Alcina, ‘Ottavia' from L’incoronazione di Poppea, ‘Marcelina’ from The Marriage of Figaro, ‘Genevieve’ from Pelleas et Melisande, ‘Idamante’ from Idomeneo, ‘Glasha' & ‘Varvara’ from Katya Kabanova, ‘Buttercup’ from HMS Pinafore and Mrs Lovett from Sweeney Todd.
In her homeland, Raphaela has performed the roles such as: 'Carmen' in Carmen at the Cork Opera House, ‘Cherubino’ in The Marriage of Figaro and ‘Orfeo’ in Orfeo ed Euridice with Glasthule Opera in the Pavilion Theatre, ‘Bianca’ in The Rape of Lucretia with IYO in Wexford Opera House,‘3rd Sprite’ in Rusalka with Lyric Opera in the Gaiety Theatre, ‘Tessa’ in The Gondoliers with the RTE Concert Orchestra in the National Concert Hall and 'Penelope' in The Return of Ulysses with Opera Collective Ireland on tour. A regular on the concert platform, some of Raphaela’s most noted performances are: numerous lunchtime recitals for RTE Lyric FM with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra and Elgar's Sea Pictures with RTE Concert Orchestra for RTE Lyric FM live from the National Concert Hall stage. She has sung in various Opera Galas and Concerts internationally such as: Opera Plus Recitals, Portugal, the Leran Music Festival, France and Lunchtime Recitals at the Linbury Hall, The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Closer to home Raphaela has performed regularly in venues such the National Concert Hall, John Field Room, Pavilion Theatre, Hugh Lane Gallery, St. Iberius’, Cork Opera House, Castletown House, The Helix, Cork City Hall, Smock Alley and the Freemason’s Hall.
No stranger in the field of oratorio Raphaela's performances include: the alto solos in: Handel’s Messiah, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Mendelssohn's St. Paul and Jenkins The Armed Man & Peacemakers in the National Concert Hall with Our Lady’s Choral Society alongside the RTE CO for RTE Lyric FM. The alto solo in Mozart's Vespers, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Mozart’s Requiem, Coronation Mass and the Durufle Requiem with Wicklow Choral Society, Carlow Choral Society, Tallaght Choral Society and the Goethe Institute Choir. She has also sung the ‘Angel’ in The Dream of Gerontius, the alto solo in Charpentier’s Christmas Mass and Haydn’s Nelson Mass with the Goethe Institute in the NCH and the alto solo in Bach's St John's Passion with the Dublin Bach Singers. She has also gone on tour with the Irish Baroque Orchestra performing the Messiah and the works of Bach and Telemann. More recent work includes, multiple performances of Verdi’s Requiem initially for the Opening Gala of the International Choral Festival in City Hall, Cork, followed by a performance at the McEwan Hall, Edinburgh with the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union and again at the Olympia Theatre Dublin with the Dun Laoghaire Choral Society. Most recently Raphaela performed Handel's Messiah with the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh.
